Vitamin

"We took morphine, diamorphine, cyclizine, codeine, temazepam, nitrazepam, phenobarbitone, sodium amytal, dextropropo xyphene, methadone, nalbuphine, pethidine, pentazocine, buprenorphine, dextromoramide, chlormethiazole. The streets are a wash with drugs you can have for unhappiness and pain, and we took them all. Fuck it, we would of injected vitamin C if only they'd made it illegal" - Mark "Rent Boy" Renton

Tulsa

"I was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, in 1943. When I was sixteen, I started shooting amphetamine. I shot with my friends everyday for three years and then left town, but I've gone back through the years. Once the needle goes in it, never comes out" - Larry Clark

Exposed

"I realized that teenagers are the same everywhere that they're exposed to Western culture. Everybody has to deal with sex and drugs and parties and trying to be cool and rebelling against authority. Being a teenager can be very exciting, sometimes frightening, but also lonely and boring. I found myself drawn to the quiet moments that I felt expressed these ideas without being sensational or melodramatic about it" - Collin Lafleche

Rave

"Everybody knows you can die from huffing at any time but, to be honest, that's part of the excitement, really. I mean, if I do butane gas, I spray it in my mouth. I can feel it freezing my teeth and my throat goes numb. You keep inhaling until you get that cold feeling. It doesn't feel unpleasant, but that's what kills you, because if your throat starts to swell up, you're in real trouble. People say I must have problems at home to be a sniffer, but I don't. I just like to try new things" - Carol-Anne, 18, barmaid, Belfast, 1996.
